St Aloysius’ College Galle
Colombo OBA
A prestigious Association of past pupils of St Aloysius’ College Galle, a premier Boy’s School in the Southern Province, dedicated to the welfare and development of the College. We also strive to promote friendship and camaraderie among old boys. We dedicate ourselves to maintain highest moral and ethical values inculcated in us by the College and to live up to our College motto – Certa Viriliter – “Strive Manfully”.
About Colombo OBA
Colombo OBA was started in 1935 by few old Aloysians living in Colombo. After several meetings the first AGM was held on 23 March 1935. Dr Marceline De Costa was elected as the first President. Well known Banker Mr N.U. Jayawardena and Mr P.D. Henry were elected as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Dr Costa held the post of President till 1945 in which year he handed over the reins to Rev. Fr. Terrence De Silva S.J. We had a long list of distinguished old boy’s from all spheres of Professional and Business world as office bearers of our Association. Current President is Mr Suhail Junaid and Secretary is Mr Milinda Jayawardena.
Our Association continues to involve in projects to improve infrastructure of the College. The fully equipped Sports Complex with a Swimming pool and the Auditorium with all modern facilities which will be inaugurated this year are our prime Achievements. We were instrumental in raising funds with generous contributions from distinguished all boys which made these projects a reality.
We are actively in to Education Support and Knowledge improvement projects by conducting sessions for A/L students, Personality improvement , English Language , soft skills , internships in Corporate sector ,Job preparation training, donating digital Class rooms, funding payment to coaches , donating books and furniture to the College Library , funding computer labs , felicitating current and past staff at the annual Teachers Day, offering Scholarships to needy students for Higher Education and a host of other activities. We have a Calendar of annual events such as Aloysian Avurudu ceremony, Christmas Party, Sing alongs which help us to raise funds and promote friendship among Aloysians and the annual “South of the border “Dinner Dance.
We are justifiably proud about our achievements as one of the prime Colombo OBA’s among Southern Province Colleges.
Message From The President
Our Association, founded in 1938, has a proud legacy of service and dedication to St. Aloysius College, Galle. Over the years, generations of Aloysians have come together through the OBA Colombo Branch to support the College, its students, and fellow alumni. We have stood by this institution, honoring the values of inclusivity, unity, and excellence that were instilled in us by the Jesuits, who founded the College.
As you explore this website, you will find information about our upcoming events, the projects we have supported, and the opportunities available for members to get involved. Our efforts have led to major developments at the College, including the construction of vital infrastructure like the Sports Complex, Auditorium, and Swimming Pool, all made possible through the generosity of our members and key donors.
Looking forward, our focus remains on strengthening the bond among Old Boys, keeping them informed about College activities, and providing avenues for members to contribute to the institution’s growth. With your support, we aim to continue these efforts and work together toward ensuring the success and well-being of future generations of Aloysians.
Whether you are visiting this site as a past student, a current member, or a friend of the College, I invite you to join us in our mission to give back to the place that shaped us into who we are today. Let us uphold the Aloysian spirit, work collaboratively, and help restore the College’s past glory.
